Something I get asked daily is whether a raw fruit diet will “heal” skin conditions. There are so many people claiming they eliminated all their rashes and skin conditions by going completely raw and eating a large amount of fruit. Why is that? Is this diet legit? Should You try it? Here are my thoughts!
When someone is extremely toxic and acidic and has major skin conditions (acne, eczema, psoriasis, dermatographia, etc.), it means their body is depleted from essential minerals, vitamins, fiber, etc and is HIGHLY inflamed. To get to the point where you are severely toxic to display skin symptoms, it means you had to have a poor diet, high stress levels, antibiotics or a combination of these, which led to major candida and parasitic overgrowth. It makes sense then, that if you switch your diet to a raw whole foods diet full of fruits and vegetables which contains your essential minerals, vitamins, and fiber, that you will get better. Fruit is also VERY alkaline so it will alkalize your body as well! Because of this, your body is finally being supplied with the nutrients it needs to detoxify and nourish itself. OF COURSE YOU WILL GET BETTER! But will it last?
The main source of the toxicity in your body (for most people) is a combination of candida, parasites and mold overgrowth. They secrete waste products, viruses, heavy metals and neurotoxins into your blood stream daily which overloads your primary elimination pathways and as a result, toxins are forced out through your skin (secondary pathways). So essentially, poor liver/kidney drainage and bacterial overgrowth/imbalance are part (or all) of the root cause. Will high fruit consumption fix the root cause and PERMANENTLY clear the skin? The answer is no… no it will not.
Initially, you may notice improvement and again, it is because your body is being flooded with so many nutrients and antioxidants that is deficient in so it starts to get to work at re-balancing itself (the body). But what happens when you consume a high amount of sugar each day? MORE BACTERIAL OVERGROWTH! People (Medical Medium) say that natural sugars from fruit will not feed yeast and parasites and mold but that is false. ANY source of sugar, even natural, still provides bacteria with a food source and they will inevitably overgrow even more. What does this mean for your body and skin? It means more toxins being secreted into the blood stream to exit through the skin.
Even though you may initially clear your skin somewhat, your rashes will most likely come back and unfortunately, come back with a vengeance as yeast (parasites and mold possibly too) is more overgrown in the body then it was before.
Another issue with high fruit consumption is that you are consuming high amounts of fructose which has to be processed by your liver (and then stored as fat) because your cells require glucose, not fructose. As a result, you are further straining your already strained liver (primary emunctory) and it will lead to less toxin excretion via the stool overtime (aka, worsening of the skin as more toxins are sent to the secondary emunctories).
I have had many clients try the raw fruit diet and their skin got so much worse and ended up coming back to me much farther behind then when they came to me the first time. The only time this diet works (for a short amount of time) is when you see people living very unhealthy lives and then drastically witching to a raw, whole foods diet. They will claim they cleared their skin and swear by the diet, but after a few months, even if they stick with the diet, their skin issues will return as they didn’t address the root cause.
So, should you eat a raw high fruit diet? In my opinion, the answer is no. Raw vegetables and a small amount of low GI fruit (berries, green apples, grapefruit) can be OK and help detoxify but eating an excessive amount of fruit while you have bacterial overgrowth is not a good idea, in my opinion.
Everyone is completely different and requires a different diet for their body type, digestive strength, etc. Some people have very bad gut health and can’t digest anything raw, whereas others cant’ digest fats, or grains, or protein. The way you eat should be completely unique to you and your body! However, typically, The best diet would be an anti-inflammatory diet full of fresh vegetables, some low GI fruit, lots of soluble fiber (nuts and seeds), lean protein, wild caught fish, and a small amount of ancient sprouted gluten-free grains (buckwheat, quinoa, amaranth).
Fruit is an incredible super-food that everyone should enjoy daily, however, there are certain times when someone should limit their sugar consumption for a period of time to re-balance the body. Please remember, everything in this article is my own opinion and I always believe in the uniqueness of every individual. There is no one size fits all approach!

Thank you for this! This is exactly what happened to me! I started eating tons of fruit and felt great then my conditions went haywire. I will definitely cut back to low GI fruits until I heal. 🙂
It happens to everyone I know who went on a high fruit diet. You simply can’t clear your skin if youre consuming sugar, regardless the source 🙂
I have actually never heard of this diet but it makes complete sense! Generally when people do a drastic diet change or jump on to a new idea or claim, it makes me leery because of how much the body is having to handle through it! Great read!
Awesome article! I suffered from psoriasis for many years
I’ve got Psoriasis and this was helpful! Thank you ☺️. The reason I found your posts/blog was because I was researching this disease
I actually fully healed psoriasis with raw food diet. Its not a diet anymore, its a normal life for me, I am eating raw food only for almost 9 years now, and results are super good.
